The School of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University seeks candidates for a Lecturer or Professor of Practice position in Sports Production/Journalism beginning August 16, 2023.
Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, non-tenure track, full-time teaching faculty position in the undergraduate journalism program. The position may be renewed annually by mutual agreement based on the availability of funds, the need for services, and satisfactory performance.
The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate are to teach a variety of undergraduate sports production and/or journalism courses during the fall and spring semesters. Examples of courses include Introduction and Advanced Sports Video Production, Control Room Operations, Sports Video Profiles and Storytelling, Sports Reporting, Sports Media Relations, News and Sports Announcing and Sports Media management. The ability to teach additional courses within the journalism curriculum (ex: Photojournalism, Broadcast News Production, Editing & Design) is a plus. The School of Communication and Journalism has partnered with War Eagle Production, Auburn Athletics’ fully functional video production facility, since 2014 to create live sports production experiences for our students. In 2020, a dedicated Sports Production track was created within the journalism program and has seen continued growth. War Eagle Productions produces more than 350 live events per year, ranging from in-venue video boards to ESPN productions. Faculty and War Eagle Production professionals work with students in this facility to reinforce classroom lessons with professional-level skills. Our desired candidate will contribute to this initiative.
The candidate will teach four courses per semester and is expected to be an engaged member of the School by serving on committees. Opportunities for summer teaching are possible, subject to availability of funds. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification.
