The Department of English at Westmont College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Anglophone literature at the assistant professor level, to begin August 2023.  The position requires expertise in one or more areas of the Global South (e.g., Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, the South Pacific), including interest in diaspora literature.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 3/3 load (24 units per year), which will include upper- and lower-division literature and writing courses.  The English major includes core classes in literatures beyond British and Anglo-American traditions.  All members of the English Department teach one course in first-year composition. 

Minimum qualifications:  (1) an earned Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or another appropriate field by the date of appointment;  (2) a record of an active research agenda with specialization in Anglophone literature of the Global South;  (3) a demonstrated commitment to excellence in the college-level teaching of literature as well as composition;  (4) interest in developing courses for Westmont’s proposed general education requirement in Biblical and Theological Foundations of Justice, Reconciliation, and Diversity;  (5) interest in developing connections with interdisciplinary minors, such as Global Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, or Environmental Studies.

Preferred qualifications: (1) experience in teaching creative writing, (2) interest in interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching.
