His interests are diverse but he has focused on reorienting U.S. religious history in terms of the Atlantic World, the Pacific World, and the Western Hemisphere. Recent articles and chapters have considered method and theory in the historical study of religion as well as space and place, migration, and art and architecture. Tweed’s transnational studies have focused on Latinos and Asians, and his work on religious history has highlighted Catholics, Protestants, and Buddhists. His current research projects include a history of religion in America from the pre-colonial period to the present. His teaching reflects those research interests. Tweed teaches courses on religious history and historiography, including an undergraduate survey and graduate seminar on U.S. Religious History.
